Islamic History I

Course Description:

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the emergence and development of Islamic civilization from its origins in the Arabian Peninsula to the establishment of major Islamic empires. Students will explore the political, social,economic, and cultural dimensions of Islamic history, examining key events, figures, and intellectual currents.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the historical context of the rise of Islam and the Prophet Muhammad.

  • Analyze the political, social, and economic structures of early Islamic societies.

  • Explore the expansion of Islam and the formation of Islamic empires.

  • Examine the intellectual and cultural achievements of Islamic civilization.

  • Develop critical thinking and research skills through analysis of primary and secondary sources.

  • The pre-Islamic Arabian Peninsula

  • The life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad

  • The early Islamic conquests

  • The Umayyad and Abbasid caliphates

  • Islamic society and culture

  • The decline of the Abbasid caliphate and the rise of regional Islamic states
